Scientific Name: Urodacus hoplurus Pocock 1898
Size: 90-110mm
Ecomorphotype: Fossorial – Obligate Burrower

Description: A member of the endemic Australian Urodacidae family, whose closest relatives include members of the Scorpionidae inc., Heterometrus, Opisthophthalmus, and Pandinus.

Quite a variable species across its range that either digs spiralling burrows in open ground or amongst debris under trees. More than likely this species will be split as its variation tends to suggest speciation which presently is not recognised. Colour varies from yellowish browns to orange and clay yellow. Legs generally lighter in colour than the body. Chelicerae with poorly developed secondary serrations.

Tail long in mail, moderate in female. Vesicle moderate in size, larger in male, aculeus moderate to long. Hands large and rounded, sometimes squat, especially in the female, fingers long. Tarsal claws of equal length.
